Hidden Units

Hidden units are secret units never shown to the player directly, used for a variety of purposes for combat, cutscenes, and animations. They cannot be used in custom content without the use of mods, and contain many broken features. They can be imported into an unmodded map using mod tools, but may cause unexpected behaviours, including crashes.

Hidden Units[edit]

Ghost[edit]

The Ghost is a hidden unit in the game, depicting the dead spirit of King Mercival II, and makes an appearance in An Old Friend.

Despite having visuals and being targettable by enemies, the Ghost cannot be selected for movement or to perform any actions; it has no death animation, and has no Unit Info. It can, however, still be attacked and destroyed, and provides ally players 2 Sight range. It receives damage similar to Buildings.

In the game files, the ghost has 4 movement, and 0 gold value, and uses the battle animations of Mercival. It is considered both a Structure and a Summon unit.

In cutscenes, Ghost becomes "Mercival", and appears identical to Mercival, except that their skin colour will be entirely randomised every time they're shown, like other soldiers.

Vesper (Boss)[edit]

Vesper (Boss) is a unique Commander, used for animations in Rendevous, and never seen as a unit. Unlike Vesper, Unit Info screen shows error text for the unit description and no shortcut to a Codex entry. Additionally, when the Groove is used the cut-in will say "Shadow Sisters" instead of "Smoke Shroud".

For gameplay, Vesper (Boss) is functionally identical in every way to Vesper, including the same Groove mechanics (despite the different text).

Errol[edit]

Errol is a Commander used for cutscenes. Despite using the Errol & Orla map sprite, they will only display Errol's portrait on the start of turn, info widget, and mini portrait when hovered over, therefore having a complete set of unique visuals.

Despite having visuals and being targettable by enemies, Errol cannot be selected for movement or to perform any actions, and has no Unit Info. He can, however, still be attacked and destroyed, and provides ally players 2 Sight range. He receives damage similar to Buildings.

In the game files, Errol has 4 movement, and 0 gold value. He is considered both a Structure and a Summon unit.

Orla[edit]

Orla is a Commander used for cutscenes. Despite using the Errol & Orla map sprite, they will only display Orla's portrait on the start of turn, info widget, and mini portrait when hovered over, therefore having a complete set of unique visuals.

Despite having visuals and being targettable by enemies, Orla cannot be selected for movement or to perform any actions, and has no Unit Info. She can, however, still be attacked and destroyed, and provides ally players 2 Sight range. She receives damage similar to Buildings.

In the game files, Orla has 4 movement, and 0 gold value. He is considered both a Structure and a Summon unit.

Smoke Producer[edit]

Smoke Producer is a hidden unit used to create Vesper's Smoke Shroud Groove. When Vesper uses Smoke Shroud, a Smoke Producer is set into the map at co-ordinates (-100, -100), and hidden from the player's view. It carries data about where the smoke shroud should be, so 'buffs' can be re-applied dynamically by triggering the Smoke Producer's buffs (similar to how Emeric's Crystal works).

It has -100% Health regeneration, meaning it will immediately die in 1 turn.

Visually, it appears to be a Crystal, however it lacks a complete set of animations, causing crashes if it's displayed.

Area Heal[edit]

Area Heal is a hidden unit used to create Errol's Cooling Water Groove. When Errol uses Cooling Water, an Area Heal is set into the map at co-ordinates (-100, -100), and hidden from the player's view. It carries data about where the cooling water should be.

It has -100% Health regeneration, meaning it will immediately die in 1 turn. Upon death, it triggers an action to heal the units in range, and spawn a new Area Heal, with a smaller radius.

Visually, it appears to be a Crystal, however it lacks a complete set of animations, causing crashes if it's displayed.

Area Damage[edit]

Area Damage is a hidden unit used to create Orla's Scorching Fire Groove. When Orla uses Scorching Fire, an Area Damage is set into the map at co-ordinates (-100, -100), and hidden from the player's view. It carries data about where the scorching fire should be.

It has -100% Health regeneration, meaning it will immediately die in 1 turn. Upon death, it triggers an action to defeat the units in range, and spawn a new Area Damage, with a larger radius (until the final radius).

Visually, it appears to be a Crystal, however it lacks a complete set of animations, causing crashes if it's displayed.

Garrison[edit]

Garrison is the unit type that counterattacks for Buildings, and can be seen within battle animations as the commanding soldier to launch a volley of arrows. It is never fought directly, and only ever acts as the attacker on behalf of Buildings.

As a standalone unit, the Garrison receives damage like a Summon unit, with 105% from all sources. Otherwise, sharing most traits of the Soldier, with 4 Walking movement, 2 sight, and valued at 100 Gold. It can even Capture buildings and Load onto transport vehicles.

It has a Unit Info screen, however due to an invalid Unit Icon (Similar to the Soldier's icon) it will return the player to the Main Menu with an error. Visually, it is similar to a Soldier in the map, with many UI elements being taken from the Village, with a unique battle animation where a soldier points and arrows fall from the sky.

The Garrison maintains an Ammo value, set to 100. This ammo value is never used and cannot run out, unlike the Ammo of Riflemen.
