Gate

Gates are a special structure that work as destructable barriers, obstructing both movement and Line of Sight. It can be attacked to destroy it, and will be removed entirely from the map. It is very hard to destroy, taking half damage compared to normal buildings, but will not regenerate any health.

Gates provides no income, has no turn action, and cannot be captured. However, attacking them with Commanders does generate Groove charge.

They can be orientated both vertically and horizontally. These are functionally identical and are only visually different.

Gates can only be placed on Plains, Road, and Flagstone. Once more, unlike other buildings, which are normally not placable on Flagstone.

Team Gates[edit]

In Scenarios a gate can be set to a player faction. Doing so will change the gate's colour, and it will no longer obstruct that player or their allies movements. It can still be attacked by enemy players, and a Thief can still perform Bypass on it.

Additionally, by setting a gate to a player, then back to Neutral, it will take on the properties of other Neutral buildings. This will make it no longer be targettable by any player, nor obstruct movement or line of sight. However, Thieves can still perform Bypass.

Bypass[edit]

The Thief unit is capable of performing 'Bypass', instantly moving to the other side of a gate, without needing to destroy it. This also extends their regular movement, allowing them to rapidly cross heavier terrain.

Similar to Strongholds, the gate takes half the base damage of other buildings. It also receives no defence bonus benefit from Terrain.

As it is common for Gates to only be possible to strike from one side, it is difficult to quickly destroy it. Under most circumstances, it will take at least 3 attacks to destroy a full Gate.

Trivia[edit]

  • Events cannot spawn a vertically orientated Gate.
  • The orientation of a Gate placed in the Map Editor is random.
  • The Gate is the only unit or building in the game to not have any combat cutscenes available.
  • The Gate is the only unit or building in the game to obstruct Line of Sight.
  • The Gate is set to a unique player known as 'Hostile Neutral', this is why when set back to 'Neutral' it appears to change properties.
    • Hostile Neutral, unlike other players, is not configurable within Events or unit properties, and is instead automatically assigned based on a configuration of the unit type.
    • Setting a Gate to a player within the Map Editor will not have an effect, it must be converted using a Scenario event.
