“Sigrid is a High Vampire, an ancient being of prodigious power. She serves Valder, Lord of Felheim, and he considers her his most reliable subordinate. Like the icy wastes of her homeland, Sigrid is cold and brutal.”
Official website

Sigrid is a commander in the Felheim Legion. Despite her youthful appearance and calm demeanor, she is an ancient High Vampire with a feral side. Sigrid is loyal to Felheim's lord, Valder, and personally assassinated King Mercival II of the Cherrystone Kingdom to further Valder's plans.

Background[edit]

Wargroove 1 Codex Entry
The longer a High Vampire lives, the stronger they become. However, over 900 years' worth of amassed might is still not enough for Sigrid - she lusts for even more power. Her Master was 4000 years old when he turned her into a youngling vampire, and her earliest memories are of the savage acts inflicted by this powerful being on a trembling world. To Sigrid, it seemed that all possibilities lay at her Master's feet. The power over life and death was his, and he wielded fate like a silvered blade, cold and deadly in his intractable grip. Really, it was enough to turn anyone's head.

Sigrid took the West lands of Felheim from her Master when she was just 526 years old. She never could have defeated him in a direct confrontation, so she bided her time, knowing that he trusted her, and that his trust made him vulnerable. Then, one fateful evening, she stole into his room in the dead of night and killed him. It was as simple as that - he was dead before he had a chance to open his eyes.

Sigrid was too young to have experienced The Great Dissonance first-hand, but she grew up hearing tales of death and destruction, of bloodlust and savagery, of absolute power. And at the centre of these tales was a weapon called Requiem, and the Key that was said to unlock it. Sigrid travelled. She sought out further stories and hunted the descendants of the people spoken of in the legends. She found the graves of long-dead mages, and the scrolls detailing the design of Requiem's prison. She found out where the weapon was and how to reach it. She also found out that the Key was guarded by the monarchy that had built its kingdom upon the ashes left in Requiem's wake.

Groove[edit]

Sigrid's Groove is Vampiric Touch, which drains all health from an adjacent enemy unit and heals her for the health drained.

Vampiric Touch can be used to defeat any unit type except for units summoned by Grooves (Vine, Sparrow Bomb, Crystal, and Shadow Sister), this includes Air and Water units, so long as she can stand adjacent to them.

Strategy[edit]

“Sigrid's Vampiric Touch makes her one of the most sustainable units in the game, and can also be used to eliminate problem units.”
Sigrid's Bio

Sigrid is a simple Commander, both to master and to defeat. When her Groove is active, Sigrid is among the most difficult to kill of any Commander, as even a single unit being within range can allow her to fully heal. This allows Sigrid to intentionally position herself aggressively, knowing that so long as she has Groove, and does not die in a single turn, she can immediately recover for free while taking out another unit. Therefore, Sigrid can combat near to even dangerous threats like Giants and Dragons. However, her Groove has no effect on Commanders, therefore Sigrid must attempt to push into armies of units that are not backed by an enemy Commander who might threaten to defeat her even despite the healing. Sigrid can also use her Groove to directly endanger expensive units, forcing them to back off to avoid wasting large gold value. While counter-intuitive, Sigrid can often pose the greatest threat when never using her Groove, as the threat of instantly defeating Giants and Dragons in itself reduces the enemy's options to slow her advance.

When fighting Sigrid, it must be understood that her Groove offers very little value over a simple attack on smaller units. Unless endangered, Sigrid is unlikely to use her Groove at all on any unit cheaper than a Cavalry due to the opportunity cost. Therefore the best solution is often to form walls of cheaper units like spearmen, with dangerous threats like Dragons exclusively outside of her movement range. By creating a strong enough back line of units, Sigrid will be unable to move forward and exploit her Groove without being defeated in a single turn. Additionally, because Sigrid's Groove is restricted to melee range, you can starve her of worthwhile opportunities while still surrounding her. However, it is rarely a good idea to directly attack Sigrid without defeating her, as she can trivially heal. Additionally, Sigrid is largely threatened by enemy Commanders, as she poses no threat to them and can't slow them down defencively. Any combat Commander like Ryota, Koji, Valder, or Wulfar poses an immense danger to Sigrid, so it is often advantageous to force a confrontation between the Commanders rather than seperately attacking different lanes of the map.

Trivia[edit]

  • Sigrid is voiced by Elsie Lovelock.[1]
  • Sigrid was first revealed in the February 28, 2018 development blog post "The New Challengers".[2]
  • Although Sigrid's groove does not work against other commanders to prevent it from being overpowered, it can be used on transport units carrying them, which does result in the defeat of the other commander.
  • In an official collaboration between Chucklefish and Japanese developer Grasshopper Manufacture, a t-shirt featuring art of Sigrid appeared in the Nintendo Switch game Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.[3]
