Map[edit]

The Fortress map

The player begins with 1000 gold, providing 3 uses of the Mage's Heal spell. There are no reinforcements or replenishing gold of any kind. You must rely upon the initial resources to cross the entire stage.

Most units on the map will not move until you approach their respective areas.

Upon entering the central hallway, Valder will begin to receive 100% groove every turn.

Going on the outside of the fortress, or destroying the front Gate, will cause all units outside the throne room to be enabled and give Valder continuous Groove.

Upon entering the Throne Room, enemy reinforcements will begin spawning from the outside edges of the map each turn when Valder uses his Groove. It cycles repeatedly, until Valder is defeated. These are listed below:

Note: The turn numbers are relative from when you first enter the Throne room.

  • Turn 1: East: 1 dog; West: 1 spearman
  • Turn 2: West: 1 archer
  • Turn 3: East: 1 mage
  • Turn 4: East: 1 spearman; West: 1 dog
  • Turn 5: East: 1 archer
  • Turn 6: West: 1 mage

Story[edit]

11th September, Fortress of Felheim

Reaching the Fortress of Felheim, the final battle against Valder begins. With only a small squad of soldiers, Mercia--and Caesar--begin their assault to reach Valder, and disarm him of the Fell Gauntlet.

With Valder defeated, he expects to be die, but Mercia asks only for the Gauntlet to end the bloodshed. However, Mercia is surprised by Sigrid, who takes her Cherryblade. But before Sigrid deals her killing blow, Valder stops her, realising Sigrid killed King Mercival and is the reason this war began. Sigrid shows no remorse for her actions, and decries humanity for its lack in wit or action. It is clear Sigrid considers all humans to be worthless, be it Mercia or Valder--but loses interest, and heads off to her own matter. Mercia and Valder realise the Cherryblade is the key that would unlock Requiem, and for now accept each-other's aid to stop Sigrid.

Reuniting with the rest of the army, Mercia explains the truth of Sigrid's actions, and alongside Valder they head off the Dragon's Cradle in order to stop the release of Requiem. In the meantime, Sigrid has already opened the door, and enters the volcano to its mysterious secrets.

Dialogue[edit]

Opening Cutscene
(Enter Mercia and Caesar)

We've come so far, Caesar...

And now that we're almost there... All I can think about is home.

Things used to be so easy...

And now the world feels broken.

I wish Dad was here.

He always believed in me, even when I doubted myself.

...

If things are broken, I can find a way to fix them.

Ruff!

I know we can do this, Caesar. I know we can!

Let's go!

(Exit Mercia and Caesar)
Mission Dialogue

Introduction Dialogue

This must be Valder's fortress.

Woof!

It's crawling with Felheim troops...

But we can do it, Caesar. We can't let anything stop us now!

Mercia's army reaches outer hall corners

This place is huge...

Let's press on. Valder must be in here somewhere.

Arf!

Mercia's army reaches throne room

(Cutscene starts)
(Enter Mercia)

An invasion on my shores and a miscreant queen in my throne room.

How contrary, first to flee and then to invade. You're quite the ruler...

I'm sure your father would be proud.

Don't talk about my father! You have no right!

Temper, temper...

Your self-control is as lacking as your common sense.

Clearly you need to be taught a lesson...

Mercia's army breaks front Gate OR approaches central hall

Queen Mercia...

Quite the infiltration. May I ask what you plan to do next...

...here in my fortress, outmanned and outmatched?

I--

Foolish girl! You have less than a score of soldiers by your side...

Defeat Valder

This is it, Valder. No more running.

Mercia or Caesar is defeated

So, you fell at the last hurdle...

Completion Cutscene

You've come farther than I would have thought possible...

Your tenacity, your skill... A reign forged in blood...

I suppose that is what you sought when you began this war.

And now all that's left is to kill me.

You're accusing me of--?! ... Listen, just hand the gauntlet over... I'm tired of all this bloodshed.

(Enter Sigrid)

Tired, are you?

Then let me lay you to rest.

Finally, the Key...

To think that your father believed it would be safe in the hands of a mere child...

And now another monarch of Cherrystone kneels stricken at my feet.

But what to do with you? Perhaps I'll send you to meet your father.

...I did so enjoy killing him.

No.

It was you.

You started this war.

You undermined me. You betrayed me. You jeopardised everything I've worked for!

How dare you?

...

How dare I...?

HOW DARE I?!

I am an ancient power! I am a force of arcane sorcery! I AM DARKNESS INCARNATE!

Do you have any idea what it's like to be surrounded by asinine, conceited, callow idiots--

FOR MORE THAN NINE HUNDRED YEARS?!

You squabble and bloviate and think yourselves special and unique.

But you're nothing more than infantile narcissistive morons!

But... why am I trying to explain this to you? It's beyond your powers of comprehension.

You wish to spare the girl, Valder? So be it.

An infant becomes a child, becomes a woman, becomes a corpse...

Just as empires rise and fall.

She doesn't need me help to find her grave.

And I have more pressing matters to attend to.

(Exit Sigrid)

...'More pressing matters'?

So it's her! She's the one who wants Requiem!

Requiem is--

I know what it is.

But how could...?

Your sword - what is its origin?

The Cherryblade? It's been passed down through my family for generations.

Could it...? It must be...

Your blade, I believe it is the Key to Requiem - the means by which it may be released.

 !!

I have to stop her!

If you will accept my aid, I offer it gladly.

I've spent so long fearing you... Hating you, even...

I thought... I thought you'd killed...

...And I believed you had started this war against my people.

...We can work together. We can fix this.

Indeed. We must stop Sigrid at all costs, or watch the world burn.

Let's get the others.

Post-mission Cutscene

Ugh... Where could she be?

Do you... think she made it?

...

(Enter Caesar)

Dog!

And over there! Mercia! But who's that with her?

(Enter Mercia and Valder)

 !!

Mercia, behind you!

No! Stop! It's okay!

It's not what you think!

Valder is not our enemy - it's Sigrid!

Mercia...!

Just listen!

(Fade to black)

So it was Sigrid all along!

...and now she has the key to release Requiem

We have to stop her.

Emeric. Dad told you that Requiem is in the Dragon's Cradle, didn't he?

That's right.

That volcanic island out in the Circle Sea?

I could do with a change of scenery

No time to lose. Come on!

(Exit Mercia's group)
(Scene Transition)
(Sigrid opens the door and walks into the Volcano)
